Practices Start on Monday May 14: What to Expect?
Hello North Forest Swim Team families!
Are you excited to start the 2018 swim season on Mon, May 14?
The warm weather has been great and that will certainly help the water temperatures! If it gets colder, we will still have practice and will let common sense prevail about getting into the water. EITHER WAY we will still hold practices. Even a little bit of rain won’t stop ‘the fish’ (but thunder is a game-changer!)
Also, it’s not too late to bring a friend! We have about 60 swimmers currently registered and have room for 20+ others! Send them to northforest.swimtopia.com for all the details!
Remember the schedule for the afternoon practices (up to and including Wed, May 23 – the last day of school for Cobb County):
4:30-5:00 pm ages 6 & under
5:00-5:45 pm ages 7-10
5:45-6:30 pm ages 11-18
Keep in mind that while school is in session (most of our coaches have final exams too) practices will be shorter and may focus more on conditioning and getting to know each other. Once morning practices start on Thurs, May 24, everything will get into more of a routine.
What to bring?
Swimmers need to wear their swimsuit
to practice (due to limited changing space) and bring a towel, goggles and
swim cap (if desired), water to drink, and sunblock. PLEASE LABEL YOUR ITEMS. Note: swimmers can wear any suit to practice including,
but not limited to, the official team suit.
What else is important to know?
If you haven't yet signed our concussion awareness form, please see a coordinator at practice; we will have a signature sheet on hand through-out the week.
If you have ordered spirit-wear (t-shirts, swim caps) haven’t yet received yours, Jessica Henderson will be distributing them.We have extra items still available for purchase.
We are using the same t-shirts as last year and this year’s fees do not include a new shirt.
TIME TRIALS (i.e. a "practice meet") will be on the evening of Thursday May 24, 6pm. Concessions will be available and there will be an important parent meeting during the time trials to discuss the season and volunteer coordination.
Remember that parent volunteers are essential to the success of the swim team!
Due to the size of the team, each family is required to provide one volunteer for every meet (with intention to serve for half of the meet). If you are attending a meet but are unable to volunteer, a list of high school students able to fill in for you (often for nominal compensation) can be provided upon request. The program's success depends on you: our enthusiastic volunteers! Our new website will make it easy to volunteer once it is made available for this feature.
There will be the Coordinator-On-Deck at practices to answer any questions/concerns you have. Please raise these with her and NOT the coaches. During practices, coaches will be focusing their full attention on the swimmers in the water and for everyone’s safety we need to ensure that they are not interrupted during practice times.
If you want to have additional private swimming lessons, our coaches can schedule these separately on a fee-basis.
