Great news to share
Hi fabulous FLYING FISH FAMILIES...
What an exciting home meet last night: the weather held out, the kids were swimming faster than ever (I know - I checked their times!), only one DQ (yeah baby!), we had super-yummy concessions and we won (474 - 407)! But it gets better... we raised $480 for Swim Across America selling umbrellas/collecting donations last night in support of Grace Bunke! Thank you one and all!
Other great news: I wish all of you could have been there THIS MORNING to see 41 'fish' take to the water again, pushing themselves to swim 1,712 laps in their personal fundraising efforts. They were truly inspirational. Our coaches made sure that even our littlest swimmers could exceed their goals too. Swim Across America sent their senior level representative, Nancy Tao, to talk to the kids, distribute swim caps and tattoos and to personally thank them. They also provided a professional photographer to document the day. We'll definitely share photos when we get them. Our coaches were stars - they worked really hard getting today to make it all come together without a hitch!
Just to give you an idea, our 6&unders each did an average of 15 laps each. Our 7+ year olds did an average of 61 each. Top awards go to Mihai, Dierdre and Ella for each breaking the 100 barrier! See the attached photo for the tallies. If families still wish to contribute, we are accepting the final donations at tomorrow mornings regular practices. Note: an anonymous donor has committed to matching lap-a-thon donations up to $600 (we are currently at $500 - let's get it over the edge).
WAY TO GO... NORTH FOREST FLYING FISH!
